As of November 5th 2020 two separate tests are required. 1) A Nucleic Acid Test 2) An IgM antibody blood test. Both test results must be issued no later than 48hrs prior to flight departure. Once results are received, they must be sent to the Chinese Consulate for your region (see list below) this note.
From 0:00 on November 18th 2020, foreign citizens who fly to China from South Africa or Swaziland should apply online in advance and obtain the greenQR code (HDC code) of health status with "HDC" logo in advance.
Chinese embassies and consulates will no longer accept applications for health statement by email at that point in time. After obtaining the double negative certificate of nucleic acid test and serum IgM antibody test, foreign citizens should visit this website as soon as possible to obtain the green QR HDC code
The Chinese Embassy / Consulate General / Consulates in South Africa have officially recognized 4 Laboratories that conduct testing in South Africa. Lancet - http://www.lancet.co.za/corona-virus-info-hub/ Ampath - https://www.ampath.co.za/covid-19-collection-sites PathCare - https://www.pathcare.co.za/locate-a-depot/ Toga Laboratories - https://www.togalab.co.za/contact.html You need to supply both tests from one of the approved laboratories for a Health Form application.
PathCare, Ampath, and Lancet are the only approved providers currently offering both tests. Confirmed branches for PathCare offering both tests (in Gauteng): https://www.pathcare.co.za/store-locations/parktown/ https://www.pathcare.co.za/store-locations/springs/ Ampath Branches (TBC)
Costs for testing seem to around R850 for the Nucleic Acid test. Costs for the new IgM antibody blood test will be R224.10 (incl. vat) The test(s) will have a turn-around time of 24 hours from Gauteng or the Western Cape, and 48 hours elsewhere, so logistically you will have to fly out from Air China in JHB (as this is the only direct flight to China from South Africa), and stay in JHB for at least 2 days prior to your flight so you can get testing done.
A Health Declaration is required for all people travelling to China. The Health Declaration Form will be issued by your embassy / consulate on receipt of a valid Certificates of Negative Nucleic Acid + IgM Anti-Body Blood Tests Result issued by a health authority recognized by the Embassy or Consulate, issued no later than 48hrs prior to departure. To receive the form, Foreign passengers must send their scanned copies of passport, COVID-19 negative certificates and signed Health Declaration Form to the designated email address of their Chinese Embassy or Consulate, they will send back a scanned copy of Health Declaration Form with a stamp to the passengers by email.
